1. (в)стать, стоять, подниматься, вытягиваться и т.п. во весь рост [adv]

⇒ (to raise o.s. up, stretch o.s. out etc) to a fully straight position, (to hold o.s.) erect:

- (stand up <draw o.s. up, rise>) to one's full height;

- (stretch out) full length.

     ♦ Он поднялся во весь рост и с криком: "За родину! За Сталина! Ура!" - размахивая пистолетом, побежал навстречу танкам (Войнович 4). He drew himself up to his full height and yelled. "For the motherland! For Stalin! Hurrah'" Brandishing his pistol, he began running straight for the tanks (4a).

3. во весь рост вставать, подниматься и т.п. [adv]

⇒ (usu. of a question, problem, threat etc) (to arise, present itself etc) in all its seriousness or urgency:

- (arise etc) in all its magnitude (immensity);

- (assume) its true, overwhelming proportions (dimensions);

- [in limited contexts] in full measure.

     ♦ Это его всегдашнее бессилие что-либо знать о Фаине снова подступило в полный рост... (Битов 2). Again his everlasting powerlessness to know anything about Faina came over him in full measure . (2a).

4. lit [adv]

⇒ (of a people, a hero, death etc) displaying to the utmost extent one's or its great might, importance etc:

- (tower) to one's (its) full height;

- (rise) to one's (its) full stature;

- (arise) in all one's greatness.
